Ice Hockey Crowdfunding Campaign 2017

Supported by

The Logical Indian Community raised 32 lakhs through crowd-funding to send the Indian Women’s Ice Hockey team to the Challenge Cup of Asia 2017!

The Challenge

According to our government policy, to get funding 75% of the states in the country should play a particular sport. Since that is not the case for Ice Hockey in India, the National Women’s Ice hockey team has had to sacrifice basic amenities. But the team wanted to represent the country in the 2017 Challenge Cup Asia.

The Effort

Getting a firsthand experience of the talent, passion and love for ice hockey these girls have, the Logical Indian team took up the responsibility of changing the face of ice hockey in India through their sports initiative #SportsPossible.

It went viral within no time and the response received was overwhelming. People were mesmerized by the passion they saw, they could connect to it. Some were also surprised that such a sport exists in the country. Many wanted to help and support the nation’s progress in this sport. They wanted to be a part of it, to make a dream come true. They wanted to sponsor the players.

Seeing the support and enthusiasm of the public, TLI started a crowdfunding campaign in collaboration with Ketto (a crowd funding website). And it had been a success right from day one.

To everyone’s surprise a total amount of 32,35,000 rupees was raised within a matter of 9 days. Virender Sehwag, Kunal Kapoor were among the 3019 contributors.

With simple hashtags like #IceHockeyPossible and #TogetherWeCan, The Logical Indian brought the entire country together to send a national level crowd-funded team to represent India at the Challenge Cup Asia, happening in Thailand.

The ‘Here and Now’

The Logical Indian community has opened up a vertical in the area of funding sports teams. The National Women’s Ice hockey team registered their first ever international win playing and winning 4-3 against the team from Philippines. And this is just the beginning.

The Logical Indian’s co-founder, Abhishek Mazumdar says,

“Over the last few decades, sports teams and athletes in India have relied heavily on sponsors. No sponsors meant no participation for most. I am glad that with this campaign, The Logical Indian community has opened up a vertical in the area of funding sports teams. I personally believe when people come together, anything is possible and we have proved just that.”

The efforts of The Logical Indian community has enabled a crowd funded national level team to go ahead and make history.
