A BJP MLA in Uttar Pradesh took it upon himself to spread BJP’s ideology among school students. Sushil Singh, who represents Saiyadraja constituency went to National Inter College on July 17 and extended BJP membership to students.

The MLA also took an hour of political science class where he taught the student about the party’s ideology. The MLA also distributed BJP scarf among the students. A video of the lawmaker standing in the class and addressing the students with BJP scarves around their neck is doing the rounds on social media.

The membership drive was carried out during school hours and classes were suspended for the event. A school teacher told the reporters that Sushil Singh is a ‘bahubali’ (strong man) of the area and no one can refuse him. The teacher also said that several children were minors in the class.

The BJP launched its membership drive on July 6 on the occasion of birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee and all the constituency have been given a target.

Singh, however, claimed that it was the students who called him as there was no library in the school. Singh clarified that it was not a membership drive but agreed that he had asked students to associate with BJP’s ideology.

He said, “I went there after school got over and assured them about the library. Students asked me for scarves and took a picture.”

Following the incident, Chandauli district magistrate Navneet Singh Chahal called for a probe and District Inspector Of Schools (DIOS) Vinod Kumar Rai was asked to submit a report.

A party worker told a news agency – IANS that this is the easiest way to complete the target of adding members. He also said that other leaders can now go to colleges and universities to meet their targets.
