In a shocking case from Aurangabad, Bihar, a woman named Gunja Singh has been arrested for allegedly masterminding the murder of her husband, Priyanshu Kumar Singh, just 45 days after their wedding. The killing, which took place on the night of June 24 near Nabinagar railway station, was allegedly carried out to remove Priyanshu as an obstacle in Gunja’s illicit relationship with her maternal uncle, Jeevan Singh.
Along with Gunja, two accomplices—Jaishankar Chaubey and Mukesh Sharma—have also been arrested. Jeevan Singh remains on the run as police intensify their search. Authorities are relying on call detail records, CCTV footage, and confessions to piece together the alleged conspiracy.
A Calculated Betrayal: How Love Turned Deadly
Superintendent of Police Ambarish Rahul revealed that Gunja Singh had allegedly been involved in a secret relationship with her maternal uncle Jeevan Singh for over 15 years, long before her marriage to Priyanshu. Despite her objections and reluctance, family pressure compelled Gunja to marry Priyanshu in May 2025.
However, the marriage quickly became strained as Gunja allegedly viewed her husband as a barrier to continuing her illicit affair. On June 24, Priyanshu, who was returning from Varanasi, informed Gunja of his whereabouts via phone. Seizing the opportunity, Gunja allegedly passed this information to the hired killers.
The assailants allegedly ambushed Priyanshu near the railway station and shot him dead. “Gunja has confessed to orchestrating the murder, motivated by her desire to maintain her relationship with her uncle,” SP Rahul stated. The police’s Special Investigation Team meticulously analysed call records and surveillance footage, which were crucial in identifying and arresting the alleged conspirators.
Background: A Tragic Tale of Forbidden Relationships and Familial Pressure
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, exposing the dark undercurrents of forbidden relationships and the tragic consequences of unresolved personal conflicts. Gunja’s affair with her maternal uncle, Jeevan Singh, reportedly spanned over a decade and a half, a fact that was allegedly hidden from most family members.
The forced marriage to Priyanshu was seen as an attempt by the family to restore normalcy, but it only intensified the tensions. This incident echoes other recent tragedies, such as the Meghalaya honeymoon murder, underscoring the urgent need to address issues of trust, communication, and mental health within families.
Police continue their efforts to apprehend Jeevan Singh, who remains absconding, and are exploring whether others were allegedly complicit in the crime. The community mourns the loss of Priyanshu and grapples with the betrayal that allegedly led to such a heinous act.
