Indian Railways has launched an innovative contest inviting participants to create reels at select railway stations, offering a grand prize of ₹1.5 lakh. This initiative aims to celebrate India’s rich cultural heritage and promote tourism through social media engagement. Participants must submit their entries using specific hashtags on platforms like Instagram and Facebook by the end of November. The contest aligns with the broader efforts of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which seeks to modernise and enhance the facilities at over 1,200 railway stations across the country.

Embracing India’s Cultural Heritage

The contest features iconic railway stations, including Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Delhi’s New Delhi Station, both recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Participants are encouraged to capture the unique beauty and historical significance of these locations through creative reels. “We hope to inspire a new generation to appreciate our railway heritage,” stated a spokesperson from Indian Railways. One past participant shared, “Shooting my reel at the station made me realise how much history is embedded in these walls.” This initiative not only promotes tourism but also fosters national pride by showcasing the architectural grandeur and cultural narratives embedded in these stations.

How to Participate

To enter the contest, follow these simple steps:

1. Choose Your Station: Select one of the designated iconic railway stations where you will shoot your reel.

2. Plan Your Content: Think creatively about what aspects of the station you want to showcase—its architecture, bustling atmosphere, or unique stories.

3. Shoot Your Reel: Use your smartphone or camera to film your reel at the chosen station, ensuring it captures the essence of your experience.

4. Post on Social Media: Upload your reel on Instagram or Facebook using the specified hashtags provided by Indian Railways.

5. Submit Your Entry: Ensure your post is public so that it can be viewed by the judges. The deadline for submissions is at the end of November.

Modernisation Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

This contest is part of the larger Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to upgrade and modernise 1,275 railway stations across India. The scheme focuses on enhancing passenger experience by providing state-of-the-art facilities, including improved accessibility, waiting areas, and multimodal connectivity with local transport. Recent developments include the completion of modernisation projects at key stations like Rani Kamalapati in Madhya Pradesh and Gandhinagar Capital in Gujarat, which exemplify the vision of transforming railway stations into vibrant city centres that reflect India’s heritage while catering to contemporary needs. With this contest, Indian Railways hopes to engage a diverse audience, encouraging them to explore these historical sites through their lenses.

    Cultural Significance and Community Engagement

The featured railway stations are not just transit points; they are steeped in history and culture. For instance, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is a stunning example of Victorian Gothic architecture and has been pivotal in Mumbai’s development since its opening in 1887. By highlighting such landmarks, the contest invites participants to delve into local stories and traditions that enrich their reels. As one participant noted, “Learning about the station’s history added depth to my video.” This initiative is also part of a growing trend where digital engagement is used to promote tourism; previous campaigns have seen significant participation numbers, indicating a strong public interest in connecting with India’s heritage.
