A 32-year-old telecaller, K Rekha, was allegedly stabbed 11 times by her husband Lohitashwa, a cab driver, near Sunkadakatte bus stand on Magadi Road, Bengaluru, witnessed by their 12-year-old daughter. The victim succumbed to her injuries after being rushed to hospital.

The husband fled but was captured by locals and handed over to police. Both were in second marriages, and investigations suggest ongoing domestic disputes as the motive. The child is currently under child welfare care and counselling.

Brutal Incident Shatters Public Safety

The attack unfolded on Monday morning as Rekha waited with her daughter near a busy bus stand. Eyewitnesses recount how the accused suddenly appeared and started a heated argument with Rekha before pulling out a knife and stabbing her multiple times. Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene, the assailant managed to escape but was soon caught.

“The accused was taken into custody immediately, and the minor daughter is receiving psychological support from child welfare officials,” said an officer from Bengaluru Police. The victim was rushed to a private hospital, but medical staff confirmed she died from injuries sustained in the assault. The public nature of this violent act has deeply shocked residents and raised urgent questions about safety in communal spaces.

Background of Domestic Strife

According to local enquiries, Rekha, originally from Hassan, worked in a call centre in Tavarekere, while Lohitashwa, from Tumakuru district, was employed as a cab driver thanks to Rekha’s help. Both were in their second marriages, with a younger daughter residing with Rekha’s parents.

Neighbours revealed the couple had been entangled in persistent marital disputes, which police believe may have escalated fatally that day. Authorities are investigating whether there were prior complaints or intervention efforts related to domestic tensions. The police case is now registered under serious offences as the probe continues to uncover details surrounding the killing.

Impact on the Child and Community

The 12-year-old daughter witnessed the brutal act, an ordeal that has placed her under immediate protective care and counselling by child welfare authorities. Experts note that children exposed to such traumatic domestic violence often face long-term psychological challenges requiring sustained intervention.

The community, still grappling with the shock, is calling for greater awareness and prevention mechanisms for domestic abuse. Police have appealed for information from the public to aid the ongoing investigation and are working to ensure justice and support for the victim’s family.

Despite a slight decrease in overall domestic violence cases in Bengaluru over recent years, the city continues to grapple with low conviction rates for such crimes, underscoring systemic challenges in securing justice for victims and deterring offenders.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This tragic incident resonates as a grim reflection of the pervasive threat domestic violence poses to individuals and families in India. It underscores the critical need for accessible support systems, timely legal interventions, and public education to address and prevent such episodes of violence.

As a society devoted to peace, kindness, and coexistence, fostering dialogue and community vigilance becomes imperative to protect vulnerable women and children.
