A 23-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a masked intruder in a women’s paying guest (PG) accommodation near Gangotri Circle, Bengaluru, at around 3 am on August 29. The assailant locked other rooms from outside, sexually harassed the woman while she was asleep, threatened her with a knife, assaulted her multiple times, and fled with Rs 2,500 in cash.

The incident was captured on CCTV footage, and the woman tried to stop him but was assaulted again. Police have registered cases under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are searching for the accused. The security guard on duty was reportedly asleep during the attack.

Details of the Disturbing Incident and Police Response

The attack occurred at the Laxmana Durga Ladies PG in BTM Layout’s First Stage, Bengaluru. The victim, a working professional residing there since August, reported that the intruder entered her unlocked room while she slept, touching her inappropriately. When confronted, he threatened her with a knife and physically assaulted her before taking money from the room and fleeing.

CCTV footage shows a scuffle in the corridor as the victim pursued the attacker. Senior police officials confirmed they are investigating the case, reviewing footage, and actively searching for the suspect. The PG owner claimed the incident happened at the entrance, not inside the victim’s room.

Historical Context and Other Similar Incidents in Bengaluru

This case is among several recent troubling incidents involving assault and harassment in PG accommodations across Bengaluru. Earlier this year, police arrested a PG owner for allegedly kidnapping and raping a tenant. Another woman officer was reportedly molested and robbed at knifepoint in her PG.

These repeated incidents highlight growing concerns over the safety and security of women in rented accommodations, raising urgent calls for better policing, stricter security protocols, and community awareness to protect vulnerable residents.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This horrific incident underscores the critical need for safer living environments where women can feel secure and respected, free from fear of violence or harassment. The Logical Indian urges authorities and communities to strengthen preventive measures such as better security training, regular patrols, and installation of surveillance to deter criminals.

More importantly, society must nurture awareness, empathy, and respect toward women’s rights to live with dignity and safety.
