Enraged over the Income Tax Department’s action against BSP Party Chief Mayawati’s brother and BSP Vice President Anand Kumar, Mayawati dubbed the RSS and BJP as ‘casteist organisations’ alleging that they restrict tribal and Dalit people to flourish.
‘Benami Property’ Worth Rs 400 Cr
On July 18, the Income Tax Department attached ‘benami plot of land’ belonging to Mayawati’s brother Anand Kumar and his wife Vichiter Lata in a high-value property case. The book value of the property is estimated to be approximately Rs 400 crore.
Benami properties are those in which the real beneficiary is not the one in whose name the property is registered.
The attached asset, identified as a benami property of Kumar and his wife, measures 28,328.07 square meters or about 7 acres. The plot is situated in the vicinity of a proposed five-star hotel and other luxury projects in Noida.
The Income Tax Department is also probing BSP supremo’s brother Anand Kumar’s assets. The IT in its investigation alleged that Anand Kumar’s wealth multiplied from Rs 7.1 cr to Rs 1,300 crore between 2007 to 2014.
The IT Department is scanning 12 firms where Anand Kumar is the director.
Mayawati Hits Out At BJP
In response to the probe, Mayawati alleged the BJP of hoarding a large amount of money for election purposes. She also requested a special investigation into the wealth of BJP Office bearers.
“There is no doubt that at present BJP and RSS are the most casteist organisation in the country. They don’t want to see Dalits, tribals and people from backward class to do better. For this, they are using different tactics, but still, our party is fighting in the whole country for social, political and financial democracy,” Mayawati asserted.
Mayawati attacked the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amith Shah for purchasing properties worth crores and blamed them for curbing the voices of the oppressed. She also insisted on fighting for the betterment and upliftment of the Dalits and Tribals.
Mayawati also called out the BJP for reducing government jobs reservation benefits to SC/STs and OBCs by privatising major job sectors.
As per the law, a violator of the Benami Act can face imprisonment up to seven years and is also liable to pay fine up to 25 per cent of the market value of the ‘benami’ property.
