In a tragic incident in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, a newlywed man named Pradeep allegedly strangled his wife, Shivani, to death just hours after their wedding ceremony on Saturday. Following the murder, Pradeep allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan.

The incident occurred in the Saadat Ganj locality under the Ayodhya Cantt police station limits. The post-mortem report confirmed that Pradeep strangled Shivani and then died by suicide approximately half an hour later. The police investigation is ongoing, with the motive behind these tragic events remaining unclear.

A Night of Joy Turns to Mourning

The incident occurred on the night of March 8, shortly after the bride arrived at her marital home following the wedding on March 7. What was supposed to be a joyous occasion, with a reception planned for the next day, quickly turned into a scene of mourning. Relatives, who were dancing to celebratory songs just hours before, were left weeping and sharing their grief. The couple had completed their post-wedding rituals throughout the day and retired to their room late on Saturday night, police said.

Chilling Discovery

When the couple didn’t open their door until 7 AM the next morning, family members grew suspicious. After knocking repeatedly without a response, they broke down the door and were met with a horrific sight. Shivani was found dead on the bed, while Pradeep was found hanging from the ceiling fan.

According to SSP Raj Karan Nayyar, “The bodies have been sent for autopsy and a probe is underway.” The locked room suggests that Pradeep allegedly killed Shivani before taking his own life. The incident has left the community in shock, with many questioning the circumstances that led to such a tragic outcome.

Post-Mortem Report and Family’s Grief

The post-mortem report revealed that Pradeep allegedly strangled Shivani to death and subsequently committed suicide by hanging himself approximately half an hour later. The incident took place in Sahadatganj Muravan Tola of Thana Cantt, where the couple was married on March 7.

Pradeep’s brother, Deepak Kumar, stated that the wedding was arranged a year ago and there were no reported issues, leaving the family puzzled about what could have led to such a drastic turn of events. Shivani’s father, Manturam, a tailor by profession, shared that Shivani was his eldest daughter. The police have also seized the deceased’s mobile phone as part of the investigation.

Investigation and Community Response

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths, but no clear motive has been established yet. Both bodies were taken to Sahadatganj and then to the ghat for cremation, where the couple was cremated on the same pyre. The community is grappling with the sudden and tragic loss of two young lives.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing mental health and relationship issues early on. It also underscores the need for support systems that can intervene before such tragedies occur. Mental health helplines have been highlighted as resources for those struggling with similar issues.
