Case Pending In Supreme Court For The Last Four Months, IBPS Candidates Wait For Recruitment

Over 9,000 candidates who cleared the IBPS (Institution of Banking Personnel Selection) Regional Rural Bank (RRB) 7 whose final result was declared on 1st January 2019 are still waiting for their job offers. The recruitment process for those candidates has been put on hold and their pleas remain unheard. The case demanding immediate attention is pending for hearing in the Supreme Court.

Among all the applicants, 10498 were selected for various posts and categories. Before joining, the candidates had to go through one last step of document verification which requires biometric data for every candidate. Some banks began with the document verification in the month of January itself and as many as 1000-1500 candidates joined their respective banks soon after their documents were verified. Later, a Status Quo was implemented on RRB 6 & RRB 7 by the Supreme Court on 30th January 2019, citing a case filed by 11 candidates who cleared the RRB 6 and were on the reserve list but didn’t get the job. Candidates in reserve list are supposed to get the offers in case candidates on the main list don’t join the job. The 11 candidates allege they were not given the jobs even banks had vacancies.

Some candidates who cleared RRB 7 had their document verification date in the month of April which made it difficult for IBPS to provide the banks with the biometric data due to the Status Quo on IBPS. Those candidates have to now wait for an unknown time period as the matter is now sub judice. The Logical Indian reached out to IBPS and they said as the matter is sub-judice, they can’t comment on the issue.

Case Remains Unheard

The case that has resulted in the Status Quo has been filed on IBPS Regional Rural Bank(RRB) 6.

107 applicants of IBPS RRB 7 have filed an Intervention application in the ongoing case of RRB 6 seeking allotment from Banks as they are entitled to it as per the selection process and guidelines.

However, it has been more than 4 months and no hearing has taken place as the merit list selected candidates await justice. Adding to woes of the candidates, the last hearing was on 10th May when a positive response was expected. But, the hearing was again postponed for 1st July 2019 and the candidates continue to remain disappointed and helpless.

“We’re a group of almost 9,000 candidates who are trying to seek justice and many of us are the sole breadwinners in their families. Paying all our EMIs and loans is getting difficult for us and is bringing down our morale” said Ranjan Kumar, a selected candidate.

At present, the Supreme Court is closed for summer vacation. The Supreme Court is expected to hear their plea in the month of July.

Candidates’ Demands

“On every date, we remain unheard and do not seem to get enough help and support from bodies like IBPS, NABARD and Government of India, which is why candidates like us had to arrange advocates from our side bearing lakhs of their fees. We’re losing out in terms of financial requirements as well as our seniority in Banks,” said Ranjan Kumar.

Several candidates have tried reaching many authorities like the NABARD, IBPS, GOI, PMO, President Secretarial so that their hard work and years of dedication does not go unnoticed. The candidates will now try to seek help from the Chief Justice of India and shall request for a specific date when the hearing can take place.

Recruitment Process Of IBPS

IBPS is said to follow strict recruitment procedures in terms of the Government of India Gazette and in accordance with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The Institution of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), Mumbai carries out the recruitment of Banking staff on behalf of the Government of India. Candidates are selected through a rigorous process for several positions starting from Office Assistants and Group A officers which include Scale I, II and III officers and are allocated and posted across the country by the Banks in India comprising of the Nationalised Banks and the Regional Rural Banks (RRB’s).
