This Diwali Spread Happiness And Be Reason Of Someone Else’s Joy

It is that time of the year again when friends and family come together to celebrate the reign of light over darkness. Pomp and joy are words synonymous with the festival of Diwali. Everybody dresses up in their best clothes, wears the brightest smile and welcomes radiance like an old friend.

Diwali is that time of the year when we come together as a family and exchange gifts with each other to show that we care. This Diwali can be a little different. The festival of lights as it is aptly called is more about spreading joy among others than just bursting crackers. This year let’s try to paint a smile on someone else’s face.

During this season, many small-time traders and vendors, many small artists and artisans open shops in and around our city, selling Diwali ornaments, diyas and lamps. In an urban setting, they are often ignored as we choose to do our shopping from air-conditioned stores.

In an attempt to spread joy and help those in need, Hewlett-Packard (HP) India has come up with a heart-touching video. To raise awareness about local art and craft, the video shows a lady, who is lovingly referred to as ‘Amma’ by a kid, selling handmade diyas at a bazaar. Amma, who was finding it difficult to sell the diyas, sold everything thanks to the child. By making her Diwali a ‘happy’ one, the little boy reminds us the reason why the festival of lights is celebrated.

It is the time to pause and think about all the people who might need our help to have a prosperous Diwali. It’s time we think about the local vendors, the small time artisans who are working on beautiful diyas and other Diwali ornaments to earn a ‘happy’ Diwali for themselves.

These people would not be sharing their profits with the big corporates. They want to earn enough to buy food for the months to come. For them, the festival is another opportunity to try and survive.

As part of the initiative, Hewlett-Packard (HP) India has decided to decorate their HP World stores with products made by street vendors. Not just them, there are many people who are in need of our help. There are children on the streets who cannot afford to buy new clothes let alone crackers. Let’s help them have a happy Diwali too.

We, as citizens, have the opportunity to help the underprivileged spend Diwali in a dignified way and we should make their lives brighter this season. This Diwali spread a message of love and togetherness, and inspire others to do the same. The festival of lights should not only be limited to bright crackers but the brightness should be showered on everyone. Let’s be the reason for someone else’s happiness. #TuJashnBan
