The National Skill Development Corporation India (NSDC) was formed with a motive to primarily catalyse the skill development scenario of India. NSDC is a Public-Private Partnership Company constantly Upgrading employment skills to an international level by allowing industry involvement and also through setting up of necessary frameworks for quality, standard and curriculum assurance.

NSDC’s increasing focus on imbibing practices for affirmative action in the skills ecosystem, the Skill Council for Persons with Disability (SCPwD) was set up in 2015 with a vision for “developing skills by transcending barriers, accepting diversity and creating inclusion with equal opportunity” ,said Mr Jaikant Singh, the Senior Head State Engagement, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).

Recently NSDC formed Inclusive Divyangjan Entrepreneur Association (IDEA) with a motive to act as a leading platform for creating entrepreneurship and employment for Divyangjan.

“IDEA is the industry association of exclusive Divyangjan entrepreneurs in India like CII and FICCI for Indian industries. IDEA is led by Divyangjan entrepreneurs with support from Government (MSJE), Industries (The Hans Foundation) and NSDC”, said Mr Sanjaya Pradhan, Lead- Affirmative action.

The primary objective of this program is to create entrepreneurs (5,000) and employment (1,00,000) in the next five years, to advocate with government and industries for creating business opportunities for Divyangjan entrepreneurs and to support Divyangjan Entrepreneurs for undertaking various business opportunities”, said Mr Jaikant Singh.

Major Activities planned to create entrepreneurs through IDEA is Divyakaushal, National Job Fair. Divyakaushal is being organized by NSDC and IDEA together with the support of network partners, especially for a person with disability or Divyangjan to ensure a world that is inclusive, equitable and sustainable for everyone. “Divyakaushal is a platform that offers a single window to connect people with various kinds of disabilities to boost the national employment, self-dependence, entrepreneurship and training opportunities”, said Mr Sanjaya Pradhan.

According to Mr Jaikant Singh Divyakaushal, 2019 is mostly about empowering the disabled.

“India has one of the largest population of disabled people. Around 2.68 Crores here are people with disabilities, including 56% male and 44% female as per the census of 2011. Nearly 50% of the total PwDs in India are in the employable age, but 74% of them are non-workers or are just marginal workers. The National Action Plan by the government of India has set a target of skilling around 2.5 million PwDs using public-private funds by 2022. And through Divyakaushal, we are just going to help the government in achieving the set target. Several organisations have taken special efforts towards the empowerment of Divyangan and we are looking forward towards Divyakaushal.”

Planned on 2-3 December 2019 in Dwarka, New Delhi will be a major event organised by the National Skill Development Corporation. This event is expected to witness the attendance of more than 5,000 PwD job seekers, 150 employers and several workshops or exhibitions by Disability counselling.
