The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) has lowered the passing marks for Class 10th and Class 12th board examinations right when it is around the corner. Pass marks for ICSE have been reduced to 33 percent from 35 percent while the pass marks for ISC has dropped down from 40 percent to 35 percent.

CISCE secretary Gerry Arathoon recently issued a circular which stated that changes in the pass marks should be in effect from the approaching examination of 2018 itself and continue to be so in the academic years to follow. “Kindly note that the change in the pass marks for the ICSE and ISC examinations will be effective from the examination year 2018 onwards and not 2019”, read the official circular released by the secretary of CISCE.

The general secretary of the “Association of Heads of ICSE Schools”, Nabarun Dey stated that official notice of the given changes had been sent to all affiliated schools in the State.

The schedule of the forthcoming board examinations has been duly slated to commence between February 7th and April 2nd for ISC and February 26th to March 28th for ICSE. However, according to the official website of CICSE, the examination dates are subject to change in some states depending upon the dates of the Assembly Polls.

The Logical Indian Take

It’s a good move to make amends within the system of education to measure what is best for the students. However, The Logical Indian believes that petty alteration in passing marks that have little or no benefit must be replaced by major and audaciously compelling steps to better the quality of education for the people of India.

Also, the method of teaching, syllabus, co-curricular activities etc. must be regulated from time and again to assess the best way for education to percolate to every student on all fronts.
