A small private jet crashed while attempting an emergency landing in San Mateo Atenco, an industrial zone in Central Mexico, on Monday afternoon, killing at least seven people, according to reports.
The aircraft, which had flown from the Pacific coastal city of Acapulco and was destined for the Toluca airport, was registered to carry a total of ten people, eight passengers and two crew members.
The crash occurred after the plane struck the metal roof of a nearby business, which caused a large fire. Mexico State Civil Protection Coordinator, Adrián Hernández, confirmed that seven bodies had been recovered following the devastating impact.
Furthermore, San Mateo Atenco Mayor Ana Muñiz oversaw the swift evacuation of approximately 130 people from the surrounding industrial area as fire crews worked to contain the blaze, while authorities initiated a formal investigation into the cause of the accident.

The private jet’s journey ended tragically in San Mateo Atenco, an industrial area located just five kilometres, or three miles, from the Toluca International Airport and situated approximately 50 kilometres (31 miles) west of Mexico City.
The flight had originated in Acapulco, a major destination along Mexico’s Pacific coast, making the attempted landing at the Toluca facility a critical juncture in the journey. Initial reports, relayed by Mexico State Civil Protection Coordinator Adrián Hernández, suggest the accident was precipitated by an emergency situation that forced the crew to seek an immediate landing location.
The plane reportedly attempted to set down on a nearby soccer field, a measure of last resort for a struggling aircraft. Unfortunately, the attempt failed to clear the surrounding structures, resulting in a catastrophic collision with the metal roof of a local business. The force of the impact and the fuel on board immediately ignited a large, destructive fire at the scene.

The aftermath of the crash saw a rapid and coordinated response from local and state authorities, focused both on recovery and ensuring the safety of the local community. Coordinator Adrián Hernández confirmed the grim casualty count, stating that “hours after the crash only seven bodies had been recovered.”

Her team immediately ordered the evacuation of some 130 people residing or working in the immediate industrial vicinity, preventing further civilian injury or loss of life from the spreading blaze and debris. Coordinator Hernández concluded his remarks by confirming that the incident is officially “under investigation.”
