Making India Proud: Aswatha Narayana Bags Gold At World Skills Event In Russia, Creates History

Aswatha Narayana became the first Indian to win gold at World Skills competition in Kazan city of Russia on Tuesday, August 27 and created history.

A student of CV Raman College of Engineering, Bhubaneshwar, Aswatha bagged the gold in water technology competition held between August 23 and 27. The 25-year-old competed against 11 countries to win the medal. He was felicitated ‘Best of Nation’ amongst all the other Indian competitors.

Aswatha was a part of the 48-member contingent representing India in the world’s biggest international vocational skills competition.  

“Since water is the world’s most critical resource, the importance of this occupation and quality of those fulfilling it, is second to none,” Aswatha said after his mega win.

“In Water Technology, the competitor must assume the role of a water technician who ensures that potable water is available from a treatment plant,” he said.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Aswatha on his commendable performance and appreciated his hard work and dedication. 


India Bags Four Medals

Apart from the gold, India has won three more medals including a silver in Web Technology and two bronze medals in jewellery and graphic design technology. The winners were announced at a glittering ceremony at the 45th WorldSkills competition in the capital of Tatarstan.

Aswatha won the gold medal in water technology. Pranav Nutalapati, 17, won a silver medal in web technologies, WorldSkills organisers said. Sanjoy Pramanik, 21, from West Bengal and Shweta Ratanpura, 22 from Maharastra both won bronze medals in Jewellery and graphic design technology respectively.

A 48-member team was sent to Russia to represent India at the 45th World Skills competition. The team participated in 44 skills.

India was among 63 countries participating in the world’s biggest international vocational skill competition, WorldSkills Kazan 2019. The Skill India congratulated the team on its historic achievement at the wold event.

India was also honored with a medal of excellence at World Skills in IT software solutions for business, welding, wall and floor tiling, autobody repair, car painting, automobile technology, bricklaying, mobile robotics, patisserie and confectionery, health and social care, visual merchandising, bakery, 3D game art, cybersecurity, and mechatronics.
