How many life will it take to see a positive and concrete step towards ending medical negligence and corruption?

An eight-year old boy died in Patna Medical College and Hospital on Wednesday night after one of its employees allegedly replaced the oxygen cylinder with an empty one after his father refused to pay a bribe of Rs 150 to the employee.

The boy was suffering from septicaemia (blood infection) and he was prescribed regular oxygen intake by the doctors.

On Wednesday morning, he was given oxygen cylinder but when it was consumed, Roshan’s father approached the hospital staff to replace it with a filled one. Subhash reportedly demanded Rs 150 to replace the cylinder.However, when he was refused by Roshan’s father he allegedly gave the boy an empty cylinder. Roshan died in few hours due to suffocation.

Justice V N Sinha of the Patna high court on Friday assured that Bihar Legal Services Authority (BLSA) will take proper action in the case of the death of an eight-year-old boy at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Wednesday night.An FIR too has been lodged in the matter with Pirbahore police station. PMCH’s deputy superintendent Dr Sudhanshu said the staff, Subhash Prasad, has been suspended.
