The Logical Indian had published an article earlier last week about a Manipuri woman — Monika Khangembam — who had alleged that she was subjected to racist comments by an immigration officer at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. As per The Hindu report, an internal inquiry was conducted on the matter by the Bureau of Immigration, which found that the official did not make any such racist statements. He had just asked general questions.
Khangembam was travelling from Delhi to Seoul in South Korea. She posted on her Facebook wall on July 9: “The bloody racist immigration desk at it again! Looks at my Passport and says, “Indian toh nahi lagti ho”. I get that all the time so don’t react much to it but then he goes on, “Pakka Indian ho?” with a smirk. I still don’t react. What really got me was when he said, See… You yourself need to know your Indianness. How many States are there in India?”
Following her post-Home Minister Rajnath Singh home Minister of State had ordered a probe. The inquiry panel after going through CCTV footage found that the inquiry officer had asked her to name the states Manipur shares its boundary with. Such a question is quite natural for immigration officials to ask.
The Logical Indian published the news after govt. ordered an inquiry.
There is discrimination against North-east people, but whenever a wrong allegation is put, it weakens the cause. If she wrongly alleged the airport authorities of discrimination, there should be action against her.
