The Prakasam district police successfully traced and reunited three-year-old Aishwarya with her parents just days after she went missing from Singarayakonda railway station on May 2, 2025. The toddler, taken to the station by her grandmother for begging, was abducted by a young man who lured her away with biscuits.

Following an intense investigation involving three special police teams, analysis of CCTV footage, technical surveillance, and widespread community cooperation, the child was located in Valetivaripalem Mandal, Nellore district, and safely returned to her family on May 3.

Police officials and the family expressed immense relief, while authorities urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to prevent such incidents.

Swift Police Coordination and Community Vigilance Lead to Safe Recovery

The distressing incident began when Aishwarya’s father, Chilakuri Harikrishna, filed a missing person complaint at the Singarayakonda police station shortly after realising his daughter had disappeared from the railway station premises.

According to Circle Inspector Ch Hajaratthayya, the toddler was with her grandmother at the station, where she was taken to beg. A young man reportedly approached the child, offering biscuits, and then abducted her. Superintendent of Police AR Damodar promptly formed three special teams to investigate the case.

The police meticulously reviewed CCTV footage from the railway station and surrounding areas, tracking the suspect’s movements. In addition, they circulated the child’s photographs and details extensively through WhatsApp groups, local village communities, and printed pamphlets.

This collective effort, combined with tips from vigilant citizens, enabled the police to locate Aishwarya in Nellore district within 24 hours. The child was safely handed over to her tearful parents at the SP’s office in Ongole, marking a heartwarming conclusion to the ordeal.

“Every minute without her felt like an eternity. We will remain forever indebted to the police for bringing her back safely,” said Harikrishna, expressing profound gratitude.

Contextualising the Incident: Vulnerabilities and the Need for Awareness

This incident sheds light on the vulnerabilities faced by children, especially when left in the care of others in public spaces. The grandmother’s intention to take Aishwarya to the railway station for begging, a practice that unfortunately persists in some regions, exposed the child to significant risks, including abduction.

Such cases are not isolated in the region, highlighting the urgent need for increased awareness among families and communities about the dangers of leaving young children unattended or in precarious situations. The police’s swift and coordinated response, coupled with community vigilance, was instrumental in resolving the case quickly and safely.

Superintendent Damodar emphasised the critical role of public alertness, urging citizens to report any suspicious behaviour around children to local authorities immediately. He also called for stronger community engagement to safeguard children and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This successful reunion underscores the vital importance of community cooperation and proactive policing in protecting children from harm. The Logical Indian firmly believes that fostering a culture of empathy, vigilance, and collective responsibility is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of the most vulnerable members of society.

Protecting children is not merely the duty of their families but a shared responsibility that requires trust, communication, and collaboration between citizens and law enforcement agencies.

This incident serves as a reminder that kindness and alertness can save lives and prevent tragedies. As we reflect on this story, we invite our readers to consider: How can communities strengthen their role in safeguarding children and supporting law enforcement efforts to create safer public spaces for all?
