A second-year law student at Amity University, Lucknow, was reportedly slapped “50-60 times” by his classmates inside a vehicle at the university parking lot on August 26, 2025, in an incident that has sparked outrage after a video of the assault went viral on social media.
Shikhar Mukesh Kesarwani, who was recovering from ligament surgery and walking with a stick, was attacked by five students, Ayush Yadav, Jahnvi Mishra, Milay Banerjee, Vivek Singh, and Aryaman Shukla, joined inside a vehicle.
The video shows a female student repeatedly slapping Shikhar while he attempts to defend himself, alongside verbal abuses and threats by the aggressors. Shikhar’s father, Mukesh Kesarwani, filed an FIR against the accused, expressing concern for his son’s trauma and safety.
Repeated Assault Caught on Video Causes Wave of Disgust
The assault took place as Shikhar arrived on campus with his friend Soumya Singh Yadav in her vehicle. As they reached the parking lot, classmates called him to the car under the pretext of talking but then subjected him to relentless slaps and verbal abuse for around 90 seconds. In the video, Jahnvi Mishra, seated in the front passenger seat, is seen slapping Shikhar multiple times, taunting him for something he allegedly said about other students.
Ayush Yadav, sitting next to Shikhar, also participates, threatening and physically assaulting him. The attackers recorded the incident and later circulated the video around campus. Mukesh Kesarwani said that Shikhar’s phone and SIM card were destroyed during the assault, and when he visited the college, he was threatened not to intervene.
University’s Response and Police Investigation
Amity University has so far not issued a formal statement, with officials stating they are unaware of the viral video at the time of initial reports but would take disciplinary action once a complaint is received and investigated. The police at Chinhat have registered a First Information Report based on Mukesh Kesarwani’s complaint and confirmed the perpetrator students have been identified.
Chinhat Police Station’s in-charge, Dinesh Chandra Mishra, stated that the case is under investigation and assured that legal action would be taken following probe outcomes. Meanwhile, students and faculty enacted calls for strict action and improved safety measures to prevent such incidents.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
The assault on a traumatised student recovering from surgery raises urgent questions about the culture of violence and bullying that may persist unchecked in campuses.
The Logical Indian urges educational institutions to foster environments of respect, empathy, and support, where differences are resolved through dialogue rather than intimidation and physical harm. Transparency in investigations and swift accountability are necessary to rebuild trust and empower vulnerable students.
