A gruesome case where a man’s murder was concealed beneath his kitchen floor for over a year, revealed by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch.

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch unearthed this alarming case that reads like a thriller script, involving the murder of Sameer Bihari by his wife, Ruby Ansari, and her lover Imran Vaghela, along with two accomplices Sahil and Faizu.

The victim, identified as Sameer Bihari, also known as Mohammed Israil Akbarali Ansari, was a mason originally from Siwan district in Bihar. Sameer had lived in Ahmedabad with his wife, Ruby Ansari, and their two children since their marriage around 2015-16.

This crime, hidden away under the kitchen floor of their Fatehwadi Canal residence, eventually surfaced a year later through determined police investigation prompted by anonymous tip-offs.

Chilling Crime and Methodical Concealment

Initially reported missing by Ruby in September 2024, Sameer’s absence raised little suspicion due to Ruby’s explanation that he had left for Dubai.

However, neighbours noticed Ruby’s frequent clandestine meetings with Imran, which led to police discreet surveillance and subsequent arrest of Imran.

During interrogation, Imran revealed that Sameer was an obstacle to his affair with Ruby, confirming a long-standing extramarital relationship and domestic abuse by Sameer towards Ruby.

The crime was premeditated and brutal – Sameer was tied up, fatally stabbed in the neck, and dismembered by the accused.

They dug a pit beneath the kitchen platform of Sameer and Ruby’s home, buried his dismembered body parts, and meticulously covered the grave with cement and tiles to mask any evidence or foul odour.

Despite living in the house for some months following the crime, Ruby and her accomplices succeeded in initially evading detection.

Investigation and Forensic Examination

The Crime Branch’s sustained inquiry over three months, based on anonymous leads and technological tracing, led to the excavation of the kitchen floor where human remains including bones, tissues, and hair were recovered.

Forensic teams have sent samples for DNA testing to confirm the identity beyond doubt. Apart from the initial confession by Imran, police have detained the other accused and are actively searching for Ruby and her associates who evaded immediate arrest.

Local residents expressed shock and dismay at the gruesome facts emerging about neighbours they considered friends, revealing the thin veneer that sometimes covers domestic turmoil.

The police have registered cases for murder and evidence tampering, and efforts are accelerating to bring all accused to justice.

According to the confession and police reports, the group had planned the murder meticulously. They first restrained Sameer inside the house, then fatally stabbed him in the neck, followed by dismembering his body to conceal the crime effectively.

To cover up their act, they dug a pit beneath the kitchen platform of the house and buried the dismembered remains. The pit was sprinkled with salt and other substances to suppress any odour and was then sealed with cement and tiles – the very next day, the kitchen floor looked normal with no visible sign of wrongdoing.

Ruby and the accomplices continued living in the home, cooking meals above the grave for nearly a year without raising suspicion.

The community remains in shock as the full extent of the betrayal and deception unfolds. Neighbours who once considered the family close friends now grapple with uncertainty and fear, highlighting how domestic secrets may fester hidden beneath calm exteriors.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This case underscores a glaring need for increased societal vigilance around domestic violence and illicit relationships, especially when signs of distress or disappearance arise.

It also presses for stronger mechanisms for neighbours and community members to safely report suspected wrongdoing.

It calls for greater community vigilance, support structures for victims, and encouragement of open conversations in neighbourhoods to detect and prevent such dark secrets.

Most importantly, this tragedy calls for a compassionate approach that encourages timely intervention, support for victims, and breaking the silence on familial abuse before irreversible harm occurs
