Salman, the accused in the rape of a six-year-old girl from Goharganj in Madhya Pradesh, was reportedly injured after attempting to escape police custody by grabbing a sub-inspector’s gun and firing at police officers.

The accused was arrested from Gandhinagar and got injured during the encounter near Kirat Nagar village while being transported to Raisen. The victim is in critical condition and fighting for her life at AIIMS Bhopal. The local community has protested, demanding swift justice.

Incident and Arrest

On November 21, Salman Khan, a 23-year-old labourer from Sehore district, allegedly lured the six-year-old girl with chocolates outside her home and took her to a forest nearby, where he sexually assaulted her.

The girl was found bleeding, rushed first to Obaidullaganj Hospital and then to AIIMS Bhopal for specialised treatment due to the critical nature of her injuries.

Following the crime, policemen launched an extensive search, eventually arresting Salman in Bhopal’s Gandhinagar area. The arrest came amid fierce local protests, including road blockades calling for immediate justice.

Escape Attempt and Police Encounter

While being transferred to Raisen, the police vehicle carrying Salman suffered a tyre puncture near Kirat Nagar village. Seizing this opportunity, Salman grabbed a sub-inspector’s firearm and started firing, prompting police to return fire, which resulted in his injury to the leg.

He was immediately admitted for medical care in Bhopal. Sub-Divisional Officer Sheela Surana described the incident as a quick and coordinated operation to prevent the accused’s escape and assured that the legal process will follow with strict actions.
