Abu Dhabi has launched a three-month pilot programme offering complimentary UAE entry visas to eligible Indian passport holders travelling from India and booking qualifying holidays in Abu Dhabi.
The initiative, introduced by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), is valid from August 1 to October 31, 2026, and is initially limited to up to 20,000 visas. To qualify, travellers must book through participating travel partners or online travel agencies, stay for at least three consecutive nights at an Abu Dhabi hotel and hold a return flight from India.
The offer is aimed at making Abu Dhabi more accessible to Indian travellers while strengthening tourism ties between the two markets. Abdulla Yousuf, Director of International Operations at DCT Abu Dhabi, said India remains “one of our most important international markets” and that covering visa costs would make it simpler for Indian travellers to choose Abu Dhabi.
Who Can Apply
The complimentary visa programme is specifically designed for Indian passport holders departing from India. However, travellers cannot independently apply for the free visa or treat the offer as a general UAE visa waiver. The benefit is linked to an eligible Abu Dhabi holiday booked through participating travel companies or online travel agencies.
The booking must include a minimum stay of three consecutive nights at a hotel in Abu Dhabi as well as a return flight from India.
The programme covers the cost of the UAE entry visa for qualifying bookings. DCT Abu Dhabi has said participating travel partners can use one of two arrangements: they can work with a DCT-appointed Destination Management Company, with the department covering visa costs directly, or continue with their existing DMC partners, with DCT reimbursing AED 285 for each eligible visa issued.
The initial pilot is capped at 20,000 visas, making availability an important consideration for travellers planning a trip during the three-month window.
How To Book
Indian travellers interested in the offer should follow these steps:
- Choose an eligible partner: Book the Abu Dhabi holiday through a participating travel partner or online travel agency.
- Plan a three-night stay: Ensure the package includes at least three consecutive nights at an Abu Dhabi hotel.
- Book a return flight: The eligibility criteria require travellers to have a return flight from India.
- Confirm visa eligibility: Ask the participating travel partner to confirm that the booking qualifies for the complimentary visa before finalising the trip.
- Process through the partner: The visa is arranged through the participating travel company; travellers do not apply independently for the free-visa benefit.
- Check passport requirements: Travellers should also verify current UAE entry requirements and ensure their passport meets the applicable validity conditions before travelling. The UAE government advises travellers to check visa requirements before departure, as eligibility rules can change.
Why India Matters
The initiative comes as Abu Dhabi continues efforts to deepen its tourism engagement with India through stronger air connectivity and expanded travel-trade partnerships.
DCT Abu Dhabi described the programme as part of its continued engagement with the Indian market, while the complimentary visa is intended to give travel partners an additional incentive to promote Abu Dhabi holidays.
Yousuf said the department wants to work closely with travel partners to make Abu Dhabi “even more accessible” for Indian travellers. He added that the visa-cost support could encourage visitors to spend longer exploring the emirate’s culture, entertainment, hospitality and natural attractions.
The programme therefore serves a dual purpose: reducing one part of the upfront travel cost for eligible visitors while supporting Abu Dhabi’s broader effort to attract more Indian tourists.
For Indian travellers, the offer could make planning a UAE holiday somewhat easier, but the conditions matter. A three-night Abu Dhabi hotel stay and return flight are mandatory for eligibility, while the number of complimentary visas is capped during the pilot period.
Travellers should therefore confirm all terms with an authorised participating partner rather than assuming that any hotel or flight booking automatically qualifies.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
Travel initiatives that make international experiences more accessible can create opportunities for cultural exchange, family experiences and greater understanding between communities. At the same time, travellers deserve clear information about eligibility, costs and conditions so that an offer described as “free” does not create confusion at the booking stage.
Abu Dhabi’s initiative is a positive step if implemented transparently and responsibly, with participating partners ensuring that travellers understand exactly what is included.
