Karnataka: Aadhaar Project Director’s SIM Disabled Due To Aadhaar Issues

Four days ago, a telecom major deactivated a SIM saying the proprietor had not registered the SIM to their Aadhaar cards. The client, in any case, told them that he registered his Aadhaar through OTP verification.

However, the organization demanded that he give his fingerprints to re-establish the association. The customer declined to give his fingerprints and contended that he knows the law and it doesn’t expect him to do anything like that.

Well, there is a twist in this tale. The person in question was the Project Director for Aadhaar in the state of Karnataka.

Prabhakar HL works at the Center for e-Governance and had linked his number to his card in the early weeks of January. The telephone organization demanded that he connect his Aadhaar with his SIM utilizing biometrics. He declined to give his biometrics expressing that he knew the law well and since December 1, cell phone clients could connect their telephones utilizing OTP.

Mobile phone administrators deactivating SIM cards for not having their Aadhaar cards registered is an issue in Bengaluru – with no respect to the expanded due date till the 31st of March 2018.

As per the rules, though, from December 1, mobile phone users can choose to link their numbers with the Aadhaar without needing to give their biometrics as the OTP facility is enough.

“This is absolutely ridiculous. Why should I prove my identity to them all over again? I had given my documents when I got the connection and I have also done the Aadhaar authentication. The irony is that I head the division that gives identity cards to people and the cell phone service provider is trying to fool me,” Prabhakar added.
