A lot of us know Laxmi by now. This 26 year old acid attack survivor has been a source of inspiration for people ever since her story of determination was told to the world.

We are happy to inform everyone that Laxmi is now the mother of a baby girl named Pihu. Pihu was born seven months ago, but Laxmi and her partner Alok Dixit, 28, wanted to take their time before introducing the baby to the world.

Despite all odds, Laxmi has remained a vivacious and optimisitic person, giving hope and strength to many. She was attacked in 2005 at age 16, by a 32-year-old man whose advances she had rejected.

Lakshmi had been the strongest advocate of regulation of acid sales, and her efforts led the Supreme Court order the central and state governments to regulate the sale of acid, and the Parliament to make prosecutions of acid attacks easier. Laxmi received a 2014 International Women of Courage award by US First Lady Michelle Obama, and was also chosen as the NDTV Indian of the Year.

During her pregnancy, Laxmi often wondered if her baby would get scared of her after she is born. Laxmi has been the object of stares and comments whenever she has gone out in public, but little Pihu only smiles happily whenever she sees her mother.

We wish the family all the very best for their life ahead.
