A wedding celebration in the Dadri area of Greater Noida turned into a site of communal horror on Friday when a mob of over 40 armed assailants reportedly launched a premeditated attack on a marriage procession.

The attackers, reportedly arriving in half a dozen vehicles, used sticks, axes and firearms to assault guests during the “millaai” ceremony in Rampur Fatehpur village.

Ten members of the wedding party, primarily senior members of a single family from Jagannathpur, sustained life threatening injuries and are currently in the ICU at Kailash Hospital.

While a viral video of the carnage has prompted a massive police manhunt, investigators have revealed that the violence was fueled by a persistent local rivalry dating back several months.

Greater Noida Wedding Chaos

The roots of this brutal assault lie in a dispute that occurred approximately three to five months ago in Jagannathpur village.

According to Soran Pradhan, National President of the Kisan Ekta Sangh, the victims, including senior family members Devendra and Deshraj, had a heated altercation with a local leader in their neighborhood.

Although a village panchayat was previously held to mediate the conflict, the rival faction allegedly continued to harbour deep resentment.

They chose the wedding of a relative in Rampur Fatehpur as the perfect moment to strike, knowing the family would be gathered in high spirits and largely unarmed. This context of rural vendettas highlights a disturbing trend where celebratory public events are weaponised to settle old scores.

Assault In Jagannathpur

The attack was marked by extreme coordination and brutality, with assailants firing nearly 20 rounds of ammunition to create a stampede like situation.

Vital statistics from the scene confirm that ten individuals were seriously injured, including 80 year old Deshraj, 70 year old Jagdish, and several middle aged men who bore the brunt of the axe attacks.

Greater Noida Additional DCP Sudheer Kumar confirmed that three specialised police teams have been formed to track the suspects.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

At The Logical Indian, we believe that the transformation of a wedding ceremony into a battlefield is a grave reflection of the erosion of social harmony and the dangerous normalization of vigilante justice.

No personal or political enmity justifies such a barbaric display of violence that targets the elderly and shatters the sanctity of a family celebration.

We advocate for a society where disputes are settled through dialogue and legal recourse rather than through axes and ammunition. It is high time that local administrations and community elders move beyond temporary panchayat fixes to address the underlying cultures of revenge that claim innocent lives.
