On Thursday, 22 January 2026, two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian shuttler to reach 500 career wins in women’s singles.

This feat was accomplished at the Indonesia Masters Super 500 tournament in Jakarta, where she defeated Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt in the round of 16.

Joining an elite global club of only six women to ever hit this mark, Sindhu’s victory solidifies her legacy as a titan of the sport. While Indian fans celebrate this massive achievement, Sindhu is already preparing for a high-octane quarterfinal clash against the Tokyo 2020 gold medallist, Chen Yu Fei.

Indonesia Masters Super 500

The 500th victory was a showcase of the grit and tactical brilliance that has defined Sindhu’s career. Facing Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt at the iconic Istora Senayan stadium, Sindhu delivered a masterclass in composure, securing the match with a scoreline of 21-19, 21-18.

Despite a spirited challenge from the Dane, Sindhu maintained her dominance in the crucial rallies to seal her fifth win in six encounters against Kjaersfeldt. This victory comes as a major morale booster for the world number 13, who is aiming to climb back into the top rankings after a season of injury-led setbacks.

The Elite 500 Club

With 500 wins from 732 singles matches, Sindhu now boasts an impressive career win rate of 68.3 percent. This milestone puts her in the company of badminton legends such as Tai Tzu Ying, Akane Yamaguchi, Carolina Marin, Ratchanok Intanon, and Petya Nedelcheva.

According to reports from Mint, her BWF Tour specific record stands at a staggering 456 wins against 227 losses. The day also saw success for other Indian shuttlers, with Lakshya Sen crushing Hong Kong’s Jason Gunawan in just 33 minutes to reach the quarterfinals, showcasing the growing strength of India’s badminton contingent on the world stage.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

At The Logical Indian, we believe that PV Sindhu’s achievement is not just a personal victory but a symbol of national pride and perseverance. Her journey is a reminder that excellence is built match by match, over years of tireless discipline and mental toughness.

We advocate for a sporting culture that recognises these milestones as beacons of inspiration for the next generation of athletes. Beyond the medals, it is Sindhu’s consistency and resilience in the face of intense global competition that makes her a true icon.
