India’s women’s kabaddi team achieved a historic victory by winning their second consecutive Women’s Kabaddi World Cup title in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The final on November 24, 2025, saw India overpower Chinese Taipei 35–28, capping an undefeated run throughout the tournament. This edition of the World Cup was significant as it marked the first time the event was hosted outside India and featured 11 competing nations.

With dominating performances from the group stages to the final, the team’s success has been widely celebrated by officials, coaches, and former players, highlighting the sport’s rapid growth and the rising prominence of women’s kabaddi on the global stage.

Consistent Excellence and National Support

India’s women’s kabaddi team showed remarkable consistency, winning every match in the group stage, including commanding victories over Thailand (65-20) and Bangladesh (43-18), and advancing comfortably to the semi-finals. Their 33–21 win against Iran in the semi-final demonstrated their tactical and physical superiority, setting the stage for the intense final against Chinese Taipei.

National leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, praised the team’s efforts, with Modi stating the victory will inspire future generations to embrace the sport. The opposition leader also congratulated the team and praised them for their discipline.

Home Minister Amit Shah lauded their discipline and talent, while Haryana Steelers head coach Manpreet Singh and former player Ajay Thakur credited the team’s belief, teamwork, and relentless hard work for the triumph, underscoring the pride their achievement brings to the nation.

The Rise of Women’s Kabaddi Globally

The tournament also highlighted kabaddi’s expanding international presence. The World Cup was hosted at Dhaka’s Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium from November 17 to 24, featuring teams from across Asia and beyond, such as Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Uganda, Nepal, Poland, and Kenya.

Chinese Taipei’s spirited run culminating in the final, along with the host nation Bangladesh’s semi-final appearance, reflect the sport’s growing popularity outside India.

Ajay Thakur noted that the team’s success signifies not just India’s dominance but also women’s kabaddi’s growing global appeal. This edition of the World Cup is a testament to how women’s kabaddi is evolving into a highly competitive international sport.
