The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has reportedly arrested Jasir Bilal Wani, a Kashmiri college student, who allegedly provided technical support to the Red Fort blast suicide bomber, Dr Umar un Nabi.
Jasir is accused of modifying drones and attempting to make rockets before the deadly car bomb attack that killed 15 people and injured over 30 in Delhi on November 10, 2025.
Tragically, Jasir’s father, Bilal Ahmad Wani, a dry-fruit seller from Qazigund, allegedly died after self-immolating in distress over the detention of his son and brother linked to the terror probe. The NIA continues to investigate the wider terror conspiracy with multiple arrests and raids underway.
Red Fort Car Blast Arrest Details
Jasir Bilal Wani, also known as Danish, was reportedly arrested in Srinagar and produced before Delhi’s Patiala House Court, where he was remanded for 10 days.
Officials say Jasir was a close associate and technical expert for Umar un Nabi’s terror module, helping to prepare explosives and modify drones for attacks that were planned in a Hamas-style manner but fell through before resorting to the car bomb.
Amir Rashid Ali, another arrested suspect, reportedly procured the vehicle used in the bombing. The terror network spans multiple states and involves educated recruits, including a “white-collar terror module” under intense investigation by the NIA and other agencies.
The Tragic Human Toll
Following Jasir’s detention, his father Bilal Ahmad Wani was reportedly summoned by police and returned home visibly shaken. A day later, Bilal allegedly set himself on fire outside his home in Wanpora, Qazigund, causing critical burn injuries.
Despite medical care at Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. The family and local leaders have criticised police for allegedly denying Bilal permission to meet his detained family members, a move blamed by many, including PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, for deepening grief and despair. This personal tragedy underscores the emotional cost borne by families entangled in counter-terror investigations.
