The Congress party has accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of massive bias and electoral manipulation following the landslide victory of the NDA in the Bihar Assembly elections of 2025. Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Jairam Ramesh, and Rahul Gandhi alleged “vote chori” (vote theft) through exclusion of millions of voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, especially targeting poor and minority voters.
While Congress pledges to analyze the results in depth and provide evidence of wrongdoing, the ECI and BJP dismissed these claims as unfounded and highlighted the people’s mandate for the NDA. Congress also reflects on internal weaknesses and ongoing struggles with grassroots support.

Congress Leaders Vocal Against Election Processes
Senior Congress leaders have been vocal in rejecting the election outcomes and questioning the fairness of the entire process. Rahul Gandhi, despite acknowledging the support of millions of voters, called the election “not fair from the start” and termed the results “surprising,” stressing that the fight ahead is to protect democracy and constitutional values.
Mallikarjun Kharge, the party president, promised an in-depth study of the results to understand the reasons behind the defeat and committed to presenting a detailed report based on facts. Jairam Ramesh accused the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Election Commission of masterminding the alleged “vote chori” on a gigantic scale. Pawan Khera, national spokesperson, criticized the the NDA’s win by calling it a ‘daylight robbery”.

Congress leader Ajay Maken expressed serious reservations about the fairness of the Bihar Assembly elections 2025. He flagged significant questions regarding the election results, stating that “something is amiss” in the process.
Maken criticized the Election Commission of India for allegedly not addressing the large volume of voter complaints, an estimated 69 lakh complaints filed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which the Congress argues disproportionately excluded voters, especially from minority and economically weaker sections.
Ashok Gehlot expressed serious concerns over the conduct of the Bihar elections, saying the Election Commission’s behaviour poses a threat to India’s democracy.
He criticised the EC for remaining a silent spectator as cash payments of Rs 10,000 were made to over one crore women’s bank accounts during the election period, calling it a blatant violation of the model code of conduct. Gehlot described this as a “loot of democracy” and warned that when elections are not conducted fairly, it amounts to vote theft. He urged citizens to safeguard democracy in the face of such challenges.
The Bihar election is a loot of democracy through the misuse of money and power. Winning or losing is a part of elections, but this time the BJP–JDU and the Election Commission together have hijacked the entire process, forcing the INDIA alliance to face defeat.

Context: Political Dynamics and Election Issues
The 2025 Bihar Assembly election was held in two phases, with the NDA alliance securing a dominant majority by winning over 200 seats out of 243. The Election Commission conducted a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls (SIR) to clean up voter lists – a process heavily contested by the opposition, who claimed it targeted vulnerable sections to the benefit of the BJP-led alliance.
Despite opposition accusations, the ECI defended its impartiality, but was also criticized for appointing bureaucrats, allegedly favouring the ruling party, as election observers. Congress’s campaign struggled to resonate amid internal organisational weaknesses and poor voter connect, exacerbated by the last-minute replacement of the state president and Rahul Gandhi’s limited presence in the state.
Meanwhile, BJP and allied leaders celebrated the result as a strong public endorsement of their governance and development agenda.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective
The allegations of electoral manipulation present a serious challenge to democratic integrity, and it is imperative that such claims are transparently and thoroughly investigated by independent bodies. Democracy thrives on fair, credible elections and the trust of citizens in the process.
Political parties must balance contestation with willingness to introspect and strengthen their grassroots presence instead of relying solely on accusations. Constructive dialogue, empathy, and respect for opposing viewpoints can foster social harmony and uphold democratic values.
