A 34-year-old woman visiting a private scan centre in Anekal, Bengaluru, has accused radiologist Dr. Jayakumar of sexually assaulting her during a medical scan.
When confronted, the doctor allegedly threatened her with a knife. The woman courageously returned the next day, secretly recording a repeat assault on her mobile phone.
After her husband confronted the doctor, he reportedly called local goons to intimidate the couple, but community members intervened and took the accused to police.
An FIR has been registered, and two special police teams are actively searching for the doctor, who remains absconding.
Alleged Assault at Plasma Medinostics: A Woman’s Ordeal
The disturbing incident occurred at Plasma Medinostics scanning centre situated on Vidhata School Main Road in Anekal, on Bengaluru’s outskirts.
The victim, a mother of three and resident of Anekal, had been advised by doctors at the government hospital to undergo a scan due to severe stomach pain. On November 11, 2025, accompanied by her husband, she visited the private scan centre.
According to her complaint, after she was asked to drink two glasses of water, Dr. Jayakumar proceeded with the ultrasound scan. During the procedure, he allegedly inappropriately touched her private parts and shouted at her when she expressed discomfort or questioned him.
She was further threatened with a knife when she confronted him after the incident. The woman’s husband later urged her to return and secretly record the scan to gather evidence.
During her second visit, she filmed the radiologist allegedly repeating the sexual misconduct, a video that has become key evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Police officials confirmed that the victim immediately reported the matter after the incident and filed a formal complaint with Anekal police station.
The police have registered a case under sections of sexual harassment, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult, emphasizing the severity of the allegations.
Bengaluru Rural Police Chief CK Baba stated that the police are actively investigating and expressed commitment to bringing the accused to justice.
Confrontation, Intimidation, and Community Support
In a bid to hold Dr. Jayakumar accountable, the victim’s husband confronted the radiologist using the video evidence recorded by his wife. Shockingly, the accused responded by allegedly calling local goons to threaten and intimidate the couple to silence them.
However, the local community quickly came to the couple’s aid. Residents intervened, condemning the doctor’s actions and ensuring that he was brought to the police station for questioning.
Despite rumours circulated on social media claiming the accused had been released from police custody and escaped, senior Anekal police officials have denied these allegations.
An officer stated categorically that the radiologist was never allowed to leave the station and insisted that he fled on his own accord in his vehicle. Following this, family members staged a peaceful protest outside the station demanding justice and swift police action.
Police sources indicated two special teams have been assigned to track down Dr. Jayakumar, who remains at large. Investigation efforts are ongoing, with forensic examination of the complaint and video evidence underway.
Meanwhile, the victim and her family have been offered police protection in light of the intimidation attempts.
The Gap in Trust: The Need for Safer Healthcare Spaces
This unsettling incident spotlights significant concerns about patient safety and trust within healthcare environments. A place that should be synonymous with care and healing has, in this case, become a site of trauma and fear.
The radiologist, as a trusted medical professional, holds immense responsibility and power over patients. Abuse of this position not only violates ethical and legal codes but shatters the confidence of vulnerable individuals seeking medical help.
The Logical Indian believes that medical facilities must ensure the stringent regulation and continuous monitoring of healthcare workers, especially those in positions allowing close physical access to patients. Institutional accountability mechanisms must be strengthened to prevent harassment and abuse.
Furthermore, prompt police response and judicial redressal must be guaranteed for survivors of such egregious misconduct.
The woman’s remarkable courage in recording the incident herself to seek justice underlines the gaps in protective systems. Many victims may suffer in silence, wary of stigma, threats, or disbelief.
Community support as shown here plays a key role in amplifying survivors’ voices and holding perpetrators accountable.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
The harrowing case of the alleged sexual assault by Dr. Jayakumar at a Bengaluru scan centre reveals deep, systemic vulnerabilities in healthcare settings that demand urgent attention.
At its core, healthcare is built on trust, dignity, and safety-principles that must be non-negotiable for every patient, especially women, who are uniquely vulnerable to abuse during medical procedures.
The bravery of the woman who documented the crime to seek justice shines a light on the gaps in institutional safeguards and police responsiveness that many survivors face across India.
The Logical Indian strongly advocates for the creation and rigorous enforcement of robust patient protection policies in all medical facilities, public or private.
