On November 10, 2025, a devastating car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort killed over thirteen people and injured over twenty. Local residents in Jammu and Kashmir, alongside officials in Delhi, held candlelight marches to express solidarity with the victims and condemn the attack.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) confirmed the blast was a terror act carried out using a Hyundai i20 driven by Dr Umar Mohammad, linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror module.

Investigations are ongoing, with significant arrests and the government issuing compensation to victims’ families. Officials including Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and BJP MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah condemned the attack and pledged swift justice.

Solidarity Flames: Jammu and Kashmir’s Unified Stand

Following the shock of the blast, candlelight marches were organised across Jammu and Kashmir in places like Kupwara, Ganderbal, and Sonamarg, drawing strong participation from locals who termed the attack “a murder of humanity.”

These marches symbolised grief, resilience, and national unity. Participants stressed the importance of communal harmony and standing united against terrorism in all forms. BJP MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah led a similar march in Delhi, highlighting the shared sorrow and determination to root out terror while fostering peace across communities.

The human stories behind the tragedy became deeply personal as victims’ families like that of Pankaj Sahni, who lost his life, recounted their grief amidst calls for justice.

Blast Details and Immediate Impact

The explosion occurred at approximately 6:52 pm near Gate 1 of the Red Fort metro station when a slow-moving Hyundai i20 suddenly detonated. CCTV footage revealed the car parked near Sunehri Masjid before being driven slowly to the blast spot.

The vehicle carried live cartridges and large amounts of ammonium nitrate explosives, which ignited a fire damaging or incinerating multiple nearby vehicles including six cars and three auto-rickshaws.

The blast shattered window panes across the vicinity and was audible several hundred meters away.

Emergency responders swiftly arrived, bringing the fire under control by 7:29 pm and rushing the injured to Lok Nayak Hospital. The explosion resulted in nine fatalities, including bystanders, and wounding more than twenty individuals.

Ongoing Investigation and Government Response

The National Investigation Agency, supported by forensic and intelligence units, leads the probe into the blast as a terror attack. Dr Umar Mohammad, alias Dr Umar Un Nabi, has been identified through DNA evidence as the driver who detonated the vehicle.

He was reportedly in communication with handlers abroad, with terror links traced to Jaish-e-Mohammed, a banned terrorist organisation. Key suspects, including doctors from Faridabad’s Al-Falah University where Umar worked, have been arrested.

Authorities uncovered a major terror module planning large-scale attacks akin to the 2008 Mumbai assaults, which included stockpiling over 2,900 kg of explosives.

The Union Cabinet condemned the act as a “heinous terror incident,” with Home Minister Amit Shah conducting site visits and briefing the Prime Minister. Security was heightened nationwide, with Uttar Pradesh on red alert and sensitive areas placed under increased scrutiny.

The Delhi government announced ex-gratia compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those killed, aiming to provide relief amid the tragedy.

The Logical Indian advocates for empathy, compassion, and ongoing dialogue as pillars to build lasting harmony. It is crucial that citizens continue to work together, fostering environments where fear and hatred cannot prosper.
