US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has unequivocally called the November 10, 2025 car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort a “clearly terrorist attack,” praising India’s swift and professional handling of the investigation. Speaking at the G7 Summit in Canada, Rubio said, “We’ve offered to help, but I think they’re very capable in these investigations. They don’t need our help, and they’re doing a good job.”

He described the blast as involving “a car loaded with highly explosive materials” which caused significant casualties, leaving 12 dead and 20 injured. The US Embassy in New Delhi also expressed condolences and wished a speedy recovery for the injured, affirming international solidarity against terrorism.

In its initial response to the November 10 Delhi Red Fort incident, the US referred to it as a “car explosion” rather than explicitly calling it a terrorist attack, contrasting with its immediate designation of the Islamabad blast as a “terrorist attack.”

While the US Embassy in Islamabad condemned the suicide bombing there promptly, using clear language including “terrorism,” the US Embassy in New Delhi initially issued a more restrained statement expressing condolences and monitoring the “explosion” without directly labeling it terror.

This difference in terminology and timing led to perceptions of a double standard, highlighting how the Delhi incident was first framed as an explosion in contrast to the swift and direct terror acknowledgment for the Islamabad attack.

The Blast and Immediate Consequences

At 6:52 pm on November 10, a white Hyundai i20 parked near the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi exploded, causing devastating casualties and widespread panic. The blast killed 12 people and injured 20 more, with victims rushed to hospitals such as LNJP and AIIMS Trauma Centre.

CCTV footage captured the slow-moving car in dense traffic moments before the explosion, emphasizing the brazen nature of the attack. Authorities quickly cordoned off the area and launched rescue operations while local police heightened security across the capital.

Investigation and Official Statements

The National Investigation Agency promptly took charge of the investigation, working alongside Delhi Police. DNA tests confirmed Dr Umar Mohammad, a doctor linked to Al-Falah University in Faridabad, as the driver of the blast vehicle. Investigations revealed his contact with a Turkey-based terror handler codenamed “Ukasa,” suggesting an international terror nexus.

The Union Cabinet formally classified the explosion as a terrorist act. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio commended India’s “measured, cautious and professional” investigation and reaffirmed confidence in India’s sovereign capability to manage the probe, offering support as needed. Indian officials condemned the violence and vowed to bring all perpetrators to justice.

Wider Context and Security Implications

This terror attack highlights ongoing threats to national security and public safety in India’s capital. Investigators are tracking the explosion’s origins, the vehicle’s purchase, and the terror module involved, believed connected to the banned group Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Multiple suspects, including doctors from the same university, are in custody. The government has invoked anti-terror laws to expedite legal proceedings. Heightened vigilance and tightened security protocols have been implemented throughout Delhi and nearby regions to prevent further incidents. This attack underscores the need for continued counter-terror efforts and community resilience.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

The Red Fort blast is a tragic reminder of terrorism’s destructive impact on society. The Logical Indian firmly condemns such violence and honours the dedication of law enforcement and medical personnel who worked tirelessly in the aftermath.

At the same time, it calls for sustained efforts to promote peace, dialogue, and empathy within communities to counter radicalization. True national security and harmony will come from uniting diverse voices against hate and fostering coexistence.
