Known warmly as the “scholarship master,” Naik’s efforts have helped over one lakh students from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts secure scholarships worth around ₹5 crore. Despite his limited pension of ₹40,000, he travels extensively, personally guiding students through scholarship application processes and liaising with officials.

Education authorities and school principals commend his tireless commitment, which has helped reduce dropout rates and inspired many to pursue professional careers.

Lifelong Commitment to Education

Naik’s journey into social service began soon after retiring from a 38-year teaching career at government high schools. Witnessing the struggles of his students in affording higher education propelled him to devote himself fully to facilitating scholarship access. On his old Honda Dream bike, Naik travels daily to schools, colleges, education offices, and students’ homes to provide hands-on assistance, often spending hours helping those unfamiliar with bureaucratic procedures.

His deep involvement goes beyond paperwork-he personally verifies the financial background and eligibility of students to prevent misuse and ensure scholarships reach deserving candidates. In doing so, he forges strong bonds with students, encouraging them to stay motivated.

District education officer G. Ramesh praises Naik’s contribution: “His intervention has been pivotal in ensuring that financial hurdles do not cut short the academic dreams of hundreds of students in rural Karnataka.” Many students recall Naik’s patience and fatherly guidance, describing how his support was a beacon during uncertain times.

Partnerships with NGOs and foundations such as Suprajit and Dyuti help Naik distribute close to ₹16 lakh in scholarships annually, amplifying his outreach.

Naik’s commitment to education stems from his own experiences. Born into a poor farming family in Karnataka, he faced significant opposition to his schooling in early years. Despite social odds and poverty, Naik persisted, inspired by Gandhian ideals, even staging hunger strikes to convince his family of education’s importance.
