A case has been registered against Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh at Hyderabad’s Shah Ali Banda Police Station for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad during a Dussehra event in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
The FIR, filed on October 5, 2025, invokes multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 196(2) for promoting enmity and 299 for outraging religious feelings, along with Sections 61 and 67 of the IT Act. The action follows citizen complaints and the viral spread of the speech, with police confirming an investigation is underway.
Legal Action and Investigation
The FIR was filed after several citizens submitted formal complaints against Singh, condemning the alleged blasphemous remarks. Police have invoked BNS Sections 196(2), 197, 221, 299, 352, 353(2), and 61, which cover acts that promote religious enmity, obstruct public servants, and incite public mischief, in addition to IT Act provisions for online dissemination of offensive content.
Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that legal action will be taken in accordance with the law. No arrest has been made yet, but the probe may include digital evidence from the event and social media platforms where the speech was shared.
Pattern of Controversial Conduct
This incident is part of a broader pattern of inflammatory statements by Singh, who has repeatedly drawn criticism for remarks that fuel communal tensions.
In August 2022, he was arrested for allegedly making derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad on his YouTube channel, leading to his temporary suspension from the BJP, though the suspension was later lifted ahead of the 2023 Telangana elections. In 2020, Meta banned his social media accounts under its “dangerous individuals and organisations” policy.
However, earlier this year, the company removed two Facebook groups and three Instagram accounts linked to him after an India Hate Lab (IHL) report exposed ongoing hate speech dissemination. These groups had over one million members and 155,000 followers, respectively.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
While legal accountability is essential, repeated incidents raise concerns about the tolerance of hate speech in public discourse. The Logical Indian believes that elected representatives must uphold constitutional values of harmony and respect. Free speech must never become a shield for incitement.
