In a shocking incident from Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district, a man named Sonu died after being mercilessly chased, beaten, and allegedly force-fed poison by his wife’s family following a domestic dispute. The attack unfolded on a highway, where Sonu tried to escape his assailants but was cornered and brutally assaulted.

Despite efforts to save him, Sonu succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. Police have registered a case against seven members of the wife’s family, including the wife, who are currently absconding. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for stringent action against the perpetrators.

The Incident: From Domestic Dispute to Public Violence

The tragic episode began early Wednesday morning with a quarrel between Sonu and his wife Santosh at their home in Hapur. Following the argument, Santosh called her family from neighbouring Bulandshahr, who soon arrived and confronted Sonu.

Reports reveal that the in-laws attacked him with sticks and rods. In a desperate attempt to flee, Sonu ran onto the highway, where CCTV footage captured several men in pursuit, one wielding a stick. Despite bystanders attempting to intervene, the attackers threatened the crowd and continued their assault.

During the brutal attack, Sonu was reportedly forced to consume a poisonous substance. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition but later died, with preliminary investigations indicating poisoning as the cause.

Family Grief and Police Investigation

The victim’s mother, Sukhwiri, expressed her heartbreak and disbelief, revealing a disturbing background to the incident. She alleged that Sonu had always supported his wife, even going so far as to sell land to provide for her needs.

She also accused the wife’s family of stealing her jewellery before taking her son’s life through poisoning. “I don’t understand the reason behind the fight, but it is normal for couples to have disagreements,” she said, lamenting the loss with grief and bewilderment.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of murder and voluntarily causing hurt against seven accused members, including the wife. Station House Officer Anita Chauhan confirmed that the accused are currently evading arrest but assured that the police were actively investigating and would bring them to justice. The community remains shocked at the audacity of the violence, which unfolded openly on a public highway.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This horrifying incident highlights a critical societal issue-the escalation of domestic disputes into deadly violence. It reflects dangers rooted in cultural and familial conflict, unresolved tensions, and a lack of adequate conflict resolution mechanisms.

The Logical Indian condemns the brutal assault and the loss of life in the strongest terms. As a society, fostering dialogue, empathy, and peaceful negotiation must become priorities to prevent such tragedies. It is imperative for authorities, community leaders, and families to work together to ensure domestic conflicts do not spiral into irreversible violence.
