Self-styled godman Chaitanyananda Saraswati, facing allegations of sexually harassing 17 female students at the Sri Sharada Institute in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, has come under intense police scrutiny following his arrest from Agra after 50 days on the run.

Police reportedly uncovered incriminating digital evidence, including chats attempting to lure women with false promises, photos with air hostesses, and screenshots of women’s social media profiles. During questioning, Saraswati allegedly remained largely uncooperative, providing evasive answers and admitting only when confronted with concrete evidence.

His two female aides, suspected of intimidating victims, are also being interrogated in connection with the scandal. The ongoing probe is exploring not only multiple accounts of harassment and abuse but also fraudulent activities involving fake identities and forged documents linked to the accused.

Sexual Harassment Allegations and Arrest Details

Chaitanyananda Saraswati, also known as Parthasarathy, was the former director of the Sri Sharada Institute and has been absconding since August 4, following complaint escalations from multiple students, including those from the economically weaker sections (EWS).

Police recovered electronic devices containing incriminating evidence including videos, screenshots of women’s social media profiles, and chat messages used to lure and intimidate victims. Detectives revealed that he manipulated students, and coerced late-night visits to his quarters.

Ongoing Police Investigation and Official Statements

The accused was taken to the management institute for pointing out crime scenes, and police continue interrogation despite his uncooperative attitude and false statements. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has urged Delhi Police for stringent investigation and victim protection.

Police arrested his close aide Hari Singh Kopkoti for threatening one victim’s family. Investigators are examining financial irregularities linked to the trust managing the institute and have frozen bank accounts amounting to nearly ₹8 crore. A Lookout Circular prevents Saraswati’s international travel.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This case exposes exploitation and abuse of power in institutions held in public trust, especially preying on vulnerable young women. The Logical Indian advocates transparent, victim-centred justice and stronger institutional safeguards to prevent recurrence. It reminds us of the critical need to empower survivors, dismantle hierarchical abuses, and promote accountability.
