Mumbai has faced continuous heavy rainfall since Saturday night, with some parts of the city recording over 50 mm of rain within a few hours on Sunday morning. Despite the intense precipitation and waterlogging in low-lying areas, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation reported that vehicular and rail traffic remained largely functional with minimal disruptions.
Neighboring districts like Thane and Palghar have also experienced significant rain leading to waterlogging and local flooding.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for several districts, including Mumbai, Nashik, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, and Pune, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Orange and yellow alerts have been declared for other districts, forecasting further rainfall through October 3.
In response, the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been actively reviewing the situation, instructing officials to intensify relief and rescue operations and ensure adequate food, shelter, and medical aid for those affected.
