Prime Minister Narendra Modi will transfer ₹7,500 crore as the first instalment of the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana on September 26, benefitting 75 lakh women in Bihar. The scheme promotes rural women’s entrepreneurship by providing initial grants of ₹10,000 to eligible women for starting businesses, with a performance-based additional grant of up to ₹2 lakh after six months.

The State Cabinet led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar approved the scheme on August 29. Priority goes to economically weaker women, especially members of Jeevika Self-Help Groups, with specific age and family income criteria.

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs and Strengthening Bihar’s Economy

The Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana seeks to create economic opportunities for rural women, giving them a platform for self-employment and financial independence. The scheme targets 75 lakh women beneficiaries, offering direct bank transfers of ₹10,000 as seed capital to start ventures of their choosing.

Following a six-month review to assess progress, eligible women can receive additional grants up to ₹2 lakh, providing vital support for scaling their enterprises. Rural Development Secretary Lokesh Kumar Singh has urged district officials to organise outreach programs at district and block levels in coordination with local Jeevika Self-Help Groups to ensure widespread participation.

Background and Implementation Framework

The Bihar State Cabinet approved the scheme on August 29, 2025, as part of a larger commitment to empower women economically and reduce rural-to-urban migration. To facilitate market access, haat bazaars and local markets are being developed across villages and towns to help women entrepreneurs sell their products directly.

The scheme’s eligibility emphasizes women aged 18 to 60 from nuclear families, not paying income tax; unmarried adult women without parental support are also included. The grant is non-repayable, reinforcing the government’s intention to promote genuine entrepreneurship without financial burden.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

Bihar’s Mukhya Mantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana represents a promising step towards women’s empowerment and rural economic development. Financial support paired with sustained follow-up creates a nurturing ecosystem for women entrepreneurs to thrive.

However, the success of such initiatives depends on transparent implementation and inclusive outreach, ensuring no deserving candidate is left behind. The Logical Indian advocates for continuous community engagement to amplify these efforts and build harmonious, self-reliant societies.
