In Rajasthan’s Nagaur district, a 29-year-old man allegedly murdered his cousin on suspicion of an affair with his wife, police said. The accused, Sohanram, allegedly lured his cousin Mukesh Galwa to a Ganesh festival programme on August 27 and attacked him with an iron rod to the head in a secluded area after the event.

He then reportedly buried Mukesh’s body in a mine using his own excavator. Police have arrested Sohanram and confirmed a full investigation is underway to establish the exact motive behind the crime.

Brutal Murder and Attempted Concealment

According to police officials from Bhawanda police station in Nagaur, Sohanram confessed to killing Mukesh. “He cunningly invited Mukesh to the Ganesh festival in nearby Bhatnokha village and, after the event, took him to a deserted spot where he hit him repeatedly on the head with an iron rod until he fell unconscious,” said an investigating officer.

The attacker then used an excavator to bury the body in a nearby mine in a bid to hide evidence. This unusual method of disposing a body has shocked local residents and raised concerns about the extent of premeditation in this crime.

Background of the Crime and Investigation

Police investigations have revealed that the primary motive behind the murder was jealousy arising from suspicion of an extramarital affair between Mukesh Galwa, the victim, and the accused Sohanram’s wife. According to police reports, this suspicion deeply affected Sohanram emotionally, leading him to premeditate the attack. However, authorities have underlined that a complete and accurate understanding of the crime is still unfolding, with the probe in its early stages.

A senior police official involved in the case commented, “We are carefully analysing evidence recovered at the crime scene, collecting witness statements, and examining the victim’s and accused’s backgrounds to determine the full context of this tragedy.”

This statement highlights the methodical approach the police are taking to ensure a thorough investigation that accounts for all angles and facts.

Significantly, the accused, Sohanram, acted alone in perpetrating the crime. After the murder on August 27, he continued his routine activities in the village for several days, which contributed to a delay in the disappearance being reported and the crime being detected.

Mukesh’s family eventually filed a missing person report on August 29 when he failed to return from the Ganesh festival event. Suspicion soon fell on Sohanram due to past familial strains and his proximity to the victim’s disappearance timeline.

During police interrogation, Sohanram confessed to killing Mukesh and revealed details about how he used his own excavator at a nearby mining site to dig a deep pit to bury the body, covering it with sand and stones to hide it from discovery. The mining site was located about 600-700 metres from a local temple, providing some degree of isolation to carry out the act late at night.

Local residents remain shocked by the brutal nature of the crime and Sohanram’s calculative attempt to conceal it. The police continue to gather more evidence and are speaking to community members to piece together the events leading up to the murder fully.

Authorities have also mentioned the possibility of additional charges depending on findings emerging during the ongoing probe, including any that might relate to prior threats or disputes between the families.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

This grievous incident is a stark reminder of how unchecked emotions and mistrust can lead to irreversible consequences in families and communities. While justice through legal means is necessary, it is equally vital to promote empathy, communication, and peaceful resolution in personal relationships.

The Logical Indian advocates for awareness and dialogue to prevent such tragedies before they occur.
