Days after Ahmedabad School Murder, a Class 8 Student in Gujarat was Stabbed by a Classmate

A disturbing incident unfolded in Balasinor, Gujarat, on August 21, 2025, when a Class 8 student was stabbed multiple times by a fellow classmate after a disagreement following school hours.

The victim sustained injuries to his abdomen and hand and was immediately rushed to a private hospital for treatment. This violent episode follows closely after the tragic murder of a Class 10 student by a Class 8 peer at a school in Ahmedabad, which has already shaken the state’s education ecosystem.

Police have registered cases and are conducting detailed investigations into both incidents, with initial inquiries suggesting these acts stemmed from petty disputes that escalated uncontrollably.

These alarming events have triggered widespread concerns among parents, educators, and child rights groups about the adequacy of safety protocols in schools across Gujarat.

A Knife Attack Shakes the Balasinor School Community

The recent stabbing at Balasinor reportedly began as a minor conflict between two Class 8 students over trivial matters, specifically over who should exit the classroom first during school hours.

The disagreement soon spiralled into a violent confrontation near Talav Darwaja, where one student produced a knife and stabbed the other thrice, injuring him seriously. The victim was immediately taken to a local private hospital and is currently in stable condition although recovering from significant injuries to his abdomen and hand.

Superintendent of Police Jaydeepsinh Jadeja confirmed that the police acted promptly upon receiving the complaint, have registered a case, and are gathering eyewitness accounts and other evidence to understand the full circumstances.

The incident has sparked anxiety among local parents and community members who fear for their children’s safety and are demanding stricter monitoring and security measures within and outside school premises.

A Pattern of School Violence Emerges in Gujarat

The Balasinor attack adds to a disturbing series of school-related violence that began with the August 19 murder of a Class 10 student by a Class 8 student at the Seventh Day Adventist School in Ahmedabad.

The Ahmedabad case revealed prior altercations and tensions between the students that school authorities attempted to mediate without involving parents adequately or addressing the root causes effectively.

The victim was fatally stabbed near the school gate, which inflamed public outrage and protests demanding greater accountability and safer school environments.

The Gujarat State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has stepped in to seek detailed reports on both cases, urging schools to review safety protocols and introspect on their handling of student conflicts.

These back-to-back incidents have pushed stakeholders to question the readiness of educational institutions to prevent and manage violent behaviour among students, highlighting urgent needs for conflict resolution education, improved supervision, and mental health support services within schools.
