On August 7, 2025, a vehicle carrying 23 CRPF personnel belonging to the 187th battalion overturned and fell into a deep gorge near the Kandva–Basantgarh area in Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir. This tragic accident resulted in the deaths of three CRPF personnel and injuries to 15 others, some critically.
Rescue operations involving police, local administration, and volunteers were promptly launched, and the injured were moved to nearby hospitals. Union Minister Jitendra Singh and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed their condolences and assured full support to the victims and their families.
Tragic Accident in Udhampur’s Difficult Terrain
The vehicle was returning from an operation in Basantgarh when it skidded off the road at around 10:30 am near Kadwa and plunged into a gorge. Two personnel died immediately, while the third succumbed en route to the hospital. Additional SP Sandeep Bhat confirmed that police and local volunteers carried out swift rescue operations.
Several injured personnel remain hospitalised, with some reported in critical condition. Union Minister Jitendra Singh highlighted the voluntary help provided by locals and is closely monitoring the situation with Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai.

I have just now spoken to DC Ms. Saloni Rai, who is personally monitoring the situation and keeping me updated. Rescue measures have been initiated immediately. Locals have voluntarily come forward to assist. All possible help being ensured,” Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh said on X.
