Overnight on July 31, 2025, Russian forces launched a massive missile and drone assault on Kyiv, deploying over 300 drones and eight cruise missiles. The Kyiv Independent reported that officials confirmed at least 26 civilians were killed in Russia’s massive overnight assault on Kyiv including three children. A nine-story residential building in the Sviatoshynskyi district was severely damaged and partially collapsed, trapping residents under rubble.
Rescue operations are ongoing amid strong condemnations from Ukrainian officials. Simultaneously, Russia claimed full control over the strategic city of Chasiv Yar in Donetsk, a claim firmly disputed by Ukraine. Kyiv declared August 1 a Day of Mourning, banning entertainment events and flying flags at half-mast.
Devastating Human Toll and Damage in Kyiv
The attack targeted at least 27 locations across Kyiv, with major destruction in the Solomianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts, damaging more than 100 buildings including homes, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, and higher education institutions. Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, described the strike as the deadliest on the city since the war began, noting the highest number of children injured in a single assault.
Among the victims was senior police lieutenant Liliia Stepanchuk, whose body was recovered from the rubble. Survivors recounted the terror of explosions shattering windows and homes in the early hours. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the attack a “treacherous and meticulously planned assault” on civilians and emphasised that rescue services were fully engaged at all hotspots.
Context: Intensifying Conflict and Misinformation over Territorial Control
This strike is part of Russia’s intensified military offensive in eastern Ukraine, especially targeting Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Russia’s claim of capturing Chasiv Yar remains contested by Ukrainian military sources, who consider these announcements propaganda amid ongoing battles.
The conflict, now over three and a half years old, continues to inflict heavy civilian casualties and disrupt daily life through repeated missile and drone bombardments. Diplomatic efforts continue, including visits by international envoys and threats of sanctions, but fighting and retaliatory attacks persist. The scale and frequency of attacks underline the urgent need for renewed peace dialogue.
As of now, as a result of Russia’s terror attack on Kyiv, 16 people have been killed, including 2 children and one policeman. Over 150 have been injured, including 16 children and 6 policemen.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective
The Logical Indian condemns the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, which exacerbates human suffering and hinders any prospects for peace. We stand in solidarity with the victims and urge all parties to prioritise humanitarian dialogue, respect for international law, and a genuine commitment to ceasefire.
Violence breeds more violence; only empathy, constructive negotiations, and adherence to human dignity can foster lasting harmony. The trauma on innocent children and families demands a global response transcending political divides.
Horrific night in Kyiv. At least 6 killed, including a 6-year-old child, and over 30 injured after Russia’s brutal attack. Emergency crews are still clearing the rubble.

🕯️ 9 people are confirmed dead.
💔 Over 100 injured.
🧸 Among them: a 6-year-old boy.
This is not a military operation.
It is daily, deliberate terror against civilians.
