Medical Care For Animals: Delhi Govt Launches Its First 24×7 Veterinary Hospital

Good news for all the animal lovers residing in the national capital, as it now has the first government-run round-the-clock medical facility for animals. The Delhi Development Minister Gopal Rai inaugurated a veterinary hospital in Tiz Hazari area, reported the Business Standard. At the inauguration event, the minister said that this is the first-of-its-kind facility in Delhi. Taking the stage, he further revealed the future plan of this project stating that soon veterinary facilities like this will be opened in all the eleven districts of the city.

This initiative was undertaken under the recently announced ‘Animal Health and Welfare Policy, 2018’. This policy seeks to curb down the increasing birth rate of monkeys, a revised regime for sterilisation of stray dogs and electronic chips to recognize owners of pets and cattle lost in the city.

Helpline launched to cater information regarding facilities at Hospital

Gopal Rai, further mentioned that the hospital which previously used to be operational during the day will now be functional in three shifts – 8 am to 2 pm, 2 pm to 8 pm or 8 pm to 8 am. People can get their animals treated 24*7. To facilitate the operation at the hospital and to help the pet owners, a helpline number – 011-23967555 was launched by the animal husbandry unit of the development department. This helpline will help the callers to procure detailed information regarding the facilities provided at the hospital.

Cow Shed and Small Veterinary Facilities To be Set

The minister said that AAP government is likely to increase their budgetary provisions for the animal husbandry unit. The state government is also likely to address the issue of shortage of veterinary facilities in the city. According to Firstpost, a government official said that small veterinary facilities will be opened in all 272 municipal wards. To take care of cows the ‘Animal Health and Welfare Policy, 2018’ also proposed a cow shed at Ghumanhera area, Delhi along with old age home for the elderly.
