The Centre has sacked 33 Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers, including seven from the Group A services, for reports of non-performance against them.
The move has been taken according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advisory to all the secretaries a few months back, to take stern actions against all non-performers.
An officer from the ministry of finance said that there is a general perception that officers can get away without performing their duties. The government has made provisions under the rules to act against those who are not satisfactorily doing their jobs. The list also included officers who had a chequered history and some others who are not known to be ‘clean’.
Apart from that, the finance ministry in a statement said that 72 officers, including six from Group A had been dismissed for departmental or disciplinary actions over the last two years. However, the compulsory retirement followed for the 33 others is not the same case for 72 officers, as the government has used special powers available to it.
