A brutal murder of an RTI activist in Chennai has shocked many. People who witnessed the murder are yet to recover from the shock of what they saw. The question remains how do thugs and gangsters cough up the courage to murder someone in broad daylight under the gaze of other citizens? Who is this RTI activist and what did he do earn the wrath of the gangsters?

What happened on that fateful day?

RTI activist Javanthraj Parasmal was chased by gangsters and killed. He was chased by gangsters who had been following him for long and chose a time when Javanthraj crossed a less inhabited area to kill him. Javanthraj was chased to a point where he had to abandon his motorbike and began to run. He was chased down until he was cornered and beaten to death.

Why was Javanthraj targeted?

Javanthraj was an RTI activist who had highlighted many illegal constructions in Sowcarpet, an area much known for the large inhabitants of the Gujarati community. Through his RTI activism, he had in his possession vigilance department files, Housing and Urban Development GOs and Madras High Court demolition orders. What more? The place where he was killed was a little more than a KM from the commissioners office. The activist had three children and the police have reportedly acquired CCTV footage of the crime. It is quite clear that the real estate mafia wanted him out.

The Logical Indian is shocked at the increasing number of deaths of RTI activists in India, RTI activists dedicate their time and effort to bring a lot of untold information to the people at the cost of their safety. We appeal to the government of Tamilnadu to arrest the guilty and bring them to justice, we also appeal to the government of Tamilnadu to crackdown on the real estate mafia, the illegal constructions and execute the innumerable demolition orders of the HC pertaining to illegal constructions.
