CBSE To Scrap Re-evaluation Of Class 12 Answer Sheets

A disappointing news came when the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) decided to scrap the option for the re-evaluation of answer sheets for the Class XII board examinations from 2017. In a meeting held in July, the board members took a decision following the increasing number of requests for the re-evaluation of answer sheets by students and lack of resources on part of the board to handle these requests.

CBSE chairman Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi said that currently, around 1.8% of the total number of students appearing for CBSE Board exam apply for re-evaluation, which is a significantly high number. However, the number of students who actually benefit from the process is very low. Nevertheless, the Board has not completely done away with the re-evaluation policy as of now. The new process states that students who have a genuine concern about their marks can file an application with the regional office, after which a committee will look into the request and the need for re-evaluation. However, the review would be done very scarcely only on a case by case basis.

Earlier CBSE had started offering re-evaluation facility to students who have appeared for the board exam in 2014. Under this policy, students could request answer sheets of 12 of the total 187 subjects, including physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology can challenge the marks given to them by the examiner.
