Confusion Looms 65-Yr-Old’s Beheading In Bihar; Contradiction Between BJP’s Claims & Police Report

A 65-year-old man was beheaded in Bihar’s Darbhanga district on Thursday. His family claimed that he was killed after he named a town square “Narendra Modi Chowk”.

His son, Tej Narayan, said that his father was a BJP supported and was attacked by about 40-50 men with hockey sticks and swords. He went ahead to also allege history to the attack, claiming that one of his brothers was killed two years ago after he put up a picture of the PM at the square, reported NDTV.

“The attackers were supporters of RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) who abused the Prime Minister,” claimed Mr Tej Narayan before any police investigation. He claimed that the party’s victory in the by-polls emboldened them.

State BJP spokesman Rajib Ranjan said to Hindustan Times: “Incidents like these demonstrate the RJD’s belief in hooliganism and corruption. They have merely retained two seats they had held earlier, but they want to strike terror in the hearts of the people of Bihar.”

Confusion over motive behind murder

The police claimed that 65-year-old Kamlesh Yadav was murdered out of “personal enmity”.

Additional SP, Darbhanga, Dilnawaz Ahmad, said, “As per our information, the attackers had some personal enmity (land dispute) with Kamlesh Yadav and his family. We are not aware of any dispute over the naming of the square, though all angles would be investigated.”

The district police has said three persons had been arrested in this case but called the attempt by the victim’s family to link it to renaming a town square after PM Modi a publicity stunt.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi from the BJP also made a similar Tweet:

Totally false that murder in Darbhanga cose of naming Modi https://t.co/Vzjoj6xJaW of land dispute.Board was put long back,Murder has nothing to do with Board.

But Bihar BJP president Nityanand Rai and Union Minister Giriraj Singh both insisted linking the incident to a property dispute was incorrect and said that the police was concealing facts.

Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of Opposition in Bihar, criticised the BJP for “communalising” society, reported Quint.
