A video by NDTV shows a 60-year-old woman shot dead by three men who fired 10 bullets at her from point-blank range on Wednesday at a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district.

The incident caught vividly on CCTV camera shows Nichettar Kaur sitting on a cot outside her home with another woman on a cot adjacent to hers when suddenly a man walks up to her and fires at her chest. Kaur falls down on the cot when two more men with pistols in hand, walk toward her and repeatedly fire at her torso.

NDTV reports that as the attackers are reloading their firearm, one of them walks to the other woman and asks her to leave. Before fleeing the scene of crime, the men shoot the 60-year-old on her face. The attackers’ faces were covered with handkerchiefs.

Her son was also found shot dead in a car near the village.

Alleged motive

Kaur and her son were to appear before court today as witnesses in the murder case of her husband over a land dispute in 2016. A few members of her extended family had been jailed for the crime.

The duo had been warned by people close to the accused against testifying in court.

Additional Director General of Police Anand Kumar, Uttar Pradesh, Anand Kumar, said that the police has arrested one person in connection with the crime and five policemen, including the police station in-charge of the area have been suspended for administrative lapses.

The Logical Indian community is perturbed with the recent incidents of crime plaguing the country. Goons resorting to unlawful activities in broad daylight with such boldness makes one wonder – why do they feel immune to the rule of law? An arrest in connection with the crime has been made. However, the brutality of the attack questions our citizenship and humanity. We hope that justice prevails in the end.
