A 12-year-old ailing boy had to die on his father’s shoulder after he was allegedly turned down at the government-run Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

Sunil Kumar’s son, Ansh, was denied in the emergency section of the hospital. They neither provided any assistance to the father to carry his son to a children’s medical centre where he was suggested to go.

Without any stretcher or ambulance, the father started walking towards the children’s hospital 250 metres away, carrying Ansh on his shoulder. It is when, the boy died.

He was down with high fever since Sunday night and was showing no sign of recovery. As his fever gradually increased, Kumar took his son to LLR hospital, which is the biggest in the city. He begged the doctors at LLR to admit Ansh, but after examining the boy for 30 minutes they asked Kumar to take him to the children’s hospital.

He asked for a stretcher but was refused by the hospital authority.

By the time he reached the children’s hospital, his son had died and doctors declared him dead on arrival.

With a heavy heart filled with grief, Kumar carried his son’s body on his shoulder and walked home.

This incident reflects how the healthcare facility in India is in a pathetic condition. Despite being world’s fastest growing economy, we failed to serve to an ailing kid. The ratio of doctors and people in the country is 1:11,000, according to the National Health Profile 2015 records.

The Logical Indian urges the government to improve the healthcare facility in the country particularly in small towns and villages.
