In another case of Policemen going out of their line of duty to help us, civilians, Pandurang Munde, a traffic constable in Thane helped save the life of 23-year-old who had reportedly suffered from a heart attack while driving his four-wheeler.
A 23-year-old man, Nikhil Tambole, who was driving his four-wheeler fromPadgha in the district towards Thane city at around 12:30 pm on August 30, suffered severe breathlessness and chest pain. His father, who was also in the car with Tambole, did not know how to drive the car, and hence called for help.
When traffic constable Munde, who was posted near Kharegaon toll Naka in Kalwa got to know about the incident, he decided to step in. Talking toThe Logical Indian, Munde narrated the incident. He said, “A man on a scooter told me that a man in a car, which was stopped near the toll plaza is in pain. I hopped on his scooter and went to inquire.”
Upon reaching the car, he found Tambole sweating profusely and gasping for breath. He even complained of severe pain on the right side of his chest. Munde understood the severity of the situation, and put Tambole in the back seat of the car and drove him to the nearest hospital which was two kilometres away.
Upon asking if he had called the ambulance, Munde said, “yes, I did call for an ambulance but then it would have caused a delay and his conditions might have worsened with time.” With this thought in mind, Munde successfully admitted the man atJupiter Hospital. However, that wasn’t the end of it. Munde went to check in on the patient’s conditions the next day as well and has learnt that his condition is stable. His efforts did not go unnoticed since, Amit Kale, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Thane felicitated Munde on the same day.
However, the celebrated traffic constable does not feel that his actions were beyond the call of duty. He said, “As policemen, it is our duty to help those who are in need.” The 35-year-old constable informed that he has helped other people in the past as well and that this was nothing new.
