Norway leads the way

Climate change is looming large and world is getting closer to a point of no return, at a time when collective action is missing and collective focus of Nations on climate change lacks purpose, Norway has taken the onus to lead the way in making our world a better place by taking the pledge and commitment to ensure zero deforestation. The MPs have enforced rules for supply chain management to ensure there is no deforestation. This is in line with 2014 UN Climate Summit to “promote national commitments that encourage deforestation-free supply chains, including through public procurement policies to sustainably source commodities such as palm oil, soy, beef, and timber”.

Importance of rainforest

The rainforests of the world play a crucial part in the climate of the world and climate change. It is the rain forests which absorbs CO2, a greenhouse gas which contributes to global warming. Besides the capacity to absorb CO2, the rainforests of the world houses half of the plant and animal species of the world. The amazon is the largest rainforest in the world, it is called the lungs of the world which inhales CO2 and gives oxygen. Even the Amazon is threatened by massive deforestation.

TLI Opinion

The Logical Indian salutes the government of Norway for the bold and necessary step. It is high time all the countries of the world follow suit. We as a humanity have very little time to save ourselves from a point of no-return and more importantly climate change affects the poor first and affects them more. By continuing the present way of life we not only affect the environment for the worse but we also commit an injustice to the poor and vulnerable of the world.
